With their proven collaborative process, Jason Calfo (designer/art director/educator), and Marty Umans (photographer/educator), know how to create efficient and powerful print and online communications. Having worked together for decades, the team has created campaigns for companies in the following sectors: consulting, healthcare, financial, non-profit, performing arts, insurance, and transportation. A testament to the team, Jason and Marty developed and taught a community-focused social impact design course (pairing teams of designers and photographers) for Syracuse’s non-profit organizations as part-time visiting instructors at Syracuse’s Newhouse School of Public Communications for 9 years.
Jason has strengthened some of the nation’s most respected brands with engaging communications prepared in traditional print media and all forms of digital media.
After graduating from Syracuse University, Jason Calfo began his career working for the world-renowned design firm, Herb Lubalin Associates, where he became production editor of U&lc., the marketing publication of The International Typeface Corporation. He then went on to work with the typographic branding firm, Carnase Inc. After several years, he co-founded Calfo Aron, which grew to be a prominent corporate design and branding firm in New York City, working with MetLife, New York Philharmonic, Lend Lease, PwC, and the MTA. Later, he focused on video and Web design for the book and magazine publishing industries working with Bloomberg and Hearst.

Marty specializes in capturing the unique personality of each individual he photographs. Creating engaging portraits that reflect the diverse dynamic of the human spirit in any situation is what he does best.
Marty Umans was a biology major at Tulane University but photography was his calling. For over 30 years, Marty’s studio in NYC produced and photographed award-winning international and national advertising campaigns for major Fortune 500 companies including IBM, Novartis, Merck, Pfizer, and the American Heart Association. His photographs have appeared on many covers of the New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, Business Week, New York Magazine, and Opera News.
For the last 5 years Marty has turned his attention to telling the stories of professionals and companies alike – with portraits to product photography to enhance and communicate their brand. As adept on location or in the studio, his attention to detail and pleasant demeanor always makes the experience memorable and successful.
